Selena Gomez may be known for pioneering colorful nail trends like butter yellow and Old Hollywood red, but now that we’re in her astrology season—that of cancer—the Rare Beauty founder seems to be taking a quieter, water-sign-inspired approach to glam.
How so? Well, instead of rocking yet another bright shade like brat green, Gomez debuted a superchic and minimal manicure that’s so barely there it’s reminiscent of English royalty’s preferred nail styles. The look is courtesy of her (and Jennifer Lopez’s) go-to nail artist Tom Bachik, who is calling Gomez’s natural-looking nails the “summer blush” manicure.
In news that should surprise no one, Gomez—and her manicure—are right on trend. In fact, when Glamour spoke with Michelle Nguyen, nail expert and founder and CEO of PLA Nails, about up-and-coming nail trends for 2024, she pointed to this kind of look specifically.
“It seems like quiet luxury is here to stay for a bit,” she told Glamour. “Many people are now embracing a sleek, minimalistic look for their nails, and we’re seeing a lot of sheers and pigmented skin tones and nude shades trending for 2024.”
This makes perfect sense, especially after a year filled with bright pink Barbie-inspired nail designs. Our nails—and eyes—need a breather. And it seems like Gomez was starting to feel the same way.
As for how to get Gomez’s glamorous yet low-key look? For the perfect summer blush mani, Bachik “started with Tweezerman tools to create the perfect foundation.” He then applied Apres Nail Gel-X Natural Almond in Medium and painted them using Apres Light and Shadow Gel Polish in 608 Could’ve Would’ve Should’ve, which is a barely-there sheer nude.
