22 Best Eye Cream for Dark Circles, Reviewed by Dermatologists

You can be the most well-rested person in the world and finding the best eye cream for dark circles can still rank at the top of your beauty list. While great concealers can temporarily hide tired eyes, they're not actually treating the issue. To combat even the most stubborn dark circles (and not to mention puffiness), we asked dermatologists and estheticians to recommend the products they use (and yes, they really work).
Top eye creams for dark circles:
- Best Overall Eye Cream for Dark Circles: Isdin Isdinceutics K Ox Eyes, $92
- Best Affordable Drugstore Eye Cream for Dark Circles: Olay Vitamin C + Peptide 24 Brightening Eye Cream, $25
- Best for Immediate Dark Circle Coverage: Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Eye Cream, $140
- Best for Dark Circles and Puffiness: La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Eye Cream for Dark Circles, $45
- Best for Dark Circles and Wrinkles: SkinCeuticals AOX Eye Gel, $104
First, look for eye creams with niacinamide (vitamin B3) which can help reduce hyperpigmentation and inflammation, says board-certified dermatologist Sheila Farhang, MD. Vitamin C is another go-to for glow boosting. To increase circulation so that blood doesn’t stay stagnant in the veins under the eyes (remember the skin is thin, so you can actually see when this happens), turn to vitamin K, which is great at improving blood flow, says Anar Mikailov, MD, a dermatologist in Burlington, Massachusetts, and founder of skin care brand Skintensive. Caffeine can temporarily reduce swelling and improve blood circulation in the undereye area as well, making the darkness less noticeable, she adds. You can also “look for formulas that contain arnica to increase blood flow,” says Joanna Vargas, a celebrity esthetician and founder of her namesake spa and skin care line. Aside from actual topical products, Vargas says, “LED light therapy is great for building collagen and lessening the appearance of dark circles,” so it can help to add a light-therapy device into your skin care routine as well.
Without further ado, these are the best eye creams for dark circles, all tested and reviewed by trusted dermatologists.

What are some causes for dark circles?
Before diving into how to get rid of dark circles, it’s helpful to understand why dark circles happen in the first place. Some reasons are out of your control: If you have a certain face shape or your parents have dark circles, you may have inherited the hollows, says Anar Mikailov, MD, a dermatologist in Burlington, Massachusetts, and founder of skin care brand Skintensive. Some people are predisposed to the darker appearance under the eyes because of the orientation of the orbital and facial bones. Sleep deprivation is one of the most common causes. Allergies, including seasonal allergies and systemic issues like eczema and asthma, can also contribute to dark circles thanks to “fluid buildup in the sinus areas, which leads to increased puffiness around the eyes,” explains Dr. Mikailov. Excess rubbing from the itching of the eyes and nose can also cause darker pigmentation. “Dry and dehydrated skin can make dark circles more prominent,” says Sheila Farhang, MD, a board-certified dermatologist.
Another factor: “The skin around the eye is 10 times thinner than the skin on the face,” says Kim Nichols, MD, a dermatologist and founder of NicholsMD in Greenwich, Connecticut. This means “the visible signs of aging can be most evident in this delicate area.”

How do I apply eye cream for dark circles?
Joanna Vargas, a celebrity esthetician and founder of her namesake spa and skin care line, recommends giving yourself an eye massage by “gently pinching tops and bottoms of eyebrows and below eyes.” She likes to do so at night, before bedtime, when she’s applying her eye cream to depuff and increase circulation.
Dr. Nichols also says to never rub because of the action’s discoloration-inducing properties. Dr. Mikailov echoes that sentiment, adding that it can help to “apply serum by tapping lightly with fingertips or with a ceramic or metal applicator, starting from the center of the face, moving outwards.”
